CombLine Hair Extensions Aftercare Guide: Washing, Brushing and Styling
Proper aftercare is essential for keeping your CombLine hair extensions discreet, comfortable and beautifully blended. Because CombLine uses lightweight hair-on-hair bonds, the way you wash, brush, dry and style your hair can affect both the appearance and longevity of your application.
At Hani Hair in JLT, Dubai, we provide every client with personalised aftercare instructions based on their natural hair, scalp condition and placement areas. Use this guide to help maintain your CombLine extensions between salon appointments.
The First 48 Hours After Your CombLine Application
The bonds need time to settle after installation. During the first 48 hours:
- Do not wash or wet your hair for the first 24 hours after the application.
- Do not brush or comb directly through the newly bonded areas.
- Avoid tight ponytails, buns or hairstyles that create tension.
- Do not scratch, pull or repeatedly touch the bonds.
- Avoid applying oils, serums, masks or styling products near the attachments.
- Follow your stylist’s instructions about when to complete your first wash.
A little extra care during this initial period can help keep the bonds neat and secure.
How to Wash CombLine Hair Extensions
You can wash your hair while wearing CombLine extensions, but always handle the bonded areas gently.
Before showering, carefully detangle the lengths of your hair. Use lukewarm water rather than very hot water, and keep your head upright instead of flipping your hair forward.
Apply a gentle shampoo to the scalp and massage carefully with your fingertips. Do not scrub aggressively or use your fingernails around the bonds. Allow the shampoo and water to move naturally through the lengths.
Apply conditioner or a hair mask only to the mid-lengths and ends. Avoid placing creamy, oily or slippery products directly onto the CombLine bonds because they may contribute to premature loosening.
Rinse thoroughly so that no product residue remains around the scalp or attachment areas.
How to Dry CombLine Hair Extensions
Never go to sleep with wet or damp CombLine extensions.
After washing, gently squeeze excess water from the hair using a soft towel. Do not rub, twist or pull the hair. Begin drying the attachment areas using a hairdryer on a low or medium setting, and then continue through the lengths.
Make sure the roots and bonds are completely dry. Leaving them repeatedly damp may create tangling, product buildup or unnecessary stress on the natural hair.
If possible, avoid rough towel drying and allow yourself enough time to dry the hair properly after every wash.
How to Brush CombLine Hair Extensions
After the initial 48-hour setting period, regular gentle brushing helps prevent tangling.
Use an extension-friendly brush recommended by your stylist. Hold the hair with one hand to support the roots, then begin brushing from the ends. Gradually work upward toward the mid-lengths and roots.
When brushing near the CombLine areas, use light and controlled movements. Do not force the brush through a bond or pull against resistance.
Brush your hair in the morning, before sleeping and whenever necessary during the day. Separating the hair gently with your fingers can also help prevent neighbouring bonds from tangling together.
How to Sleep With CombLine Extensions
Always make sure your hair is completely dry before going to bed.
Gently brush the hair, then place it in a loose braid or low ponytail to reduce friction and tangling while you sleep. Avoid tight hairstyles that pull on the scalp or attachment areas.
A silk or satin pillowcase may help reduce friction, dryness and overnight tangling, although careful brushing and proper drying remain the most important steps.
In the morning, release the hairstyle gently and brush from the ends upward.
Swimming and Exercise With CombLine Extensions
You can swim and exercise while wearing CombLine extensions, but additional care is helpful.
Before swimming, gently brush your hair and place it in a loose braid. After leaving the sea or swimming pool, rinse the hair thoroughly with fresh water to remove salt, chlorine and other residue. Detangle gently and dry the bonded areas completely.
After intense exercise, avoid leaving the scalp and bonds damp with perspiration for a long period. Allow the scalp to cool, then dry or wash the hair as needed.
Never pull a brush forcefully through wet, tangled hair after swimming or exercising.
Heat Styling CombLine Hair Extensions
CombLine hair can be blow-dried, straightened and styled with heat. However, excessive heat may dry the extension hair and reduce its softness over time.
Use a low-to-medium temperature whenever possible and avoid holding a hot tool in one place for too long. Apply heat protectant to the lengths and ends, but avoid placing oily or heavy products directly onto the bonds.
When using a curling iron or straightener close to the roots, work carefully and follow any specific instructions provided by your stylist.
Products to Avoid Near the CombLine Bonds
Products that create excessive slip or buildup may affect the attachments. Avoid applying the following directly onto the bonds:
- Hair oils and oily serums
- Conditioner and deep-conditioning masks
- Heavy leave-in creams
- Silicone-rich products that create excessive slip
- Scalp treatments unless approved by your stylist
- Adhesive removers or high-alcohol products
- Excessive dry shampoo buildup
These products may still be suitable for the mid-lengths and ends if used carefully. Ask your CombLine specialist to recommend products suitable for your natural hair and extensions.
Is Some Shedding Normal?
Some gradual shedding can be normal because CombLine is attached to natural hair, which continues through its normal growth and shedding cycle.
Do not pull, cut or attempt to reattach a loose section yourself. Contact the salon if you notice sudden or excessive shedding, uncomfortable pulling, scalp irritation, severe tangling or several bonds loosening in the same area.
Professional maintenance and removal help protect your natural hair and keep the result looking clean and discreet.
